We are delighted to present a unique exhibition at Lempertz in Brussels, powered by both Lempertz and the Civilisations Brussels Art Fair, showcasing some of the finest examples of Kuba art. The exhibition is curated by Jo de Buck expert of the Kuba Art. These exceptional pieces, drawn from private collections, offer a rare glimpse into the artistic legacy of the Kuba Kingdom.

The Kuba Kingdom, located in the northern part of the Kasai province in the Democratic Republic of Congo, is renowned for its exquisite tradition of crafting wooden objects and textiles for the Kuba court. The legendary origins of this royal dynasty are encapsulated in ritual dances that feature three royal masks and their various forms. Kuba artists created utilitarian objects at the request of nobles and chiefs, which reflected the power of their kingdom and their deities. As such, each object serves as a symbol of the owner's position within the complex Kuba hierarchy, evident in their textiles, hats, necklaces, and other adornments.

This exhibition offers a rare opportunity to explore the rich culture of the Kuba Kingdom, many of which have never been exhibited before.

Nous sommes ravis de présenter une exposition unique chez Lempertz à Bruxelles, soutenue à la fois par Lempertz et la Foire d'Art Civilisations Bruxelles, mettant en valeur certains des plus beaux exemples d'art Kuba. L'exposition est curatée par Jo de Buck, expert en art Kuba.

Ces pièces exceptionnelles, provenant de collections privées, offrent un rare aperçu de l'héritage artistique du Royaume Kuba. Le Royaume Kuba, situé dans la partie nord de la Province du Kasai en République Démocratique du Congo, est renommé pour sa tradition exquise de fabrication d'objets en bois et de textiles pour la cour Kuba. Les origines légendaires de cette dynastie royale sont encapsulées dans des danses rituelles qui mettent en scène trois masques royaux et leurs diverses formes.

Les artistes Kuba créaient des objets utilitaires à la demande des nobles et des chefs, reflétant ainsi le pouvoir de leur royaume et de leurs divinités. En tant que tels, chaque objet sert de symbole de la position de son propriétaire au sein de la complexe hiérarchie Kuba, visible dans leurs textiles, chapeaux, colliers et autres ornements.

Wij zijn verheugd een unieke tentoonstelling te presenteren bij Lempertz in Brussel, een samenwerking van Lempertz en Civilisations Brussels Art Fair, die enkele van de mooiste voorbeelden van Kuba-kunst tentoonstelt. De tentoonstelling is gecureerd door Jo de Buck, expert in Kuba-kunst.

Deze uitzonderlijke stukken, afkomstig uit privécollecties, bieden een zeldzame kijk in de artistieke erfenis van het Kuba-koninkrijk. Het Kuba-koninkrijk, gelegen in het noordelijke deel van de Kasai-provincie in de Democratische Republiek Congo (RDC), staat bekend om zijn verfijnde traditie van het vervaardigen van houten objecten en textielen voor het Kuba-hof. De legendarische oorsprong van deze koninklijke dynastie wordt vastgelegd in rituele dansen met drie koninklijke maskers en hun verschillende vormen. Kuba-kunstenaars creëerden utilitaire objecten op verzoek van edelen en chiefs, die de macht van hun koninkrijk en hun goden weerspiegelden. Elk object fungeert dan ook als een symbool van de positie van de eigenaar binnen de complexe Kuba-hiërarchie, die zichtbaar is in hun textielen, hoeden, kettingen en andere versieringen.

Deze tentoonstelling biedt een zeldzame kans om de rijke cultuur van het Kuba-koninkrijk te verkennen, waarvan vele stukken nog nooit eerder tentoongesteld zijn.
